The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has expressed deep appreciation to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for the donation of 50 buses and 40 tricycles to enhance transportation within the institution.

In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the management described the gesture as a strong demonstration of the First Lady’s commitment to student welfare, mobility, and overall well-being. The statement noted that the vehicles are already being deployed and are expected to significantly ease transportation challenges on campus and its environs.

The University also extended its gratitude to the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, for his instrumental role in facilitating the delivery of the vehicles. The management commended the monarch’s continued support for education and student development.

While confirming that operations of the buses and tricycles have commenced, the University appealed to students and members of the campus community to exercise patience with the current system. It acknowledged that the transport scheme is still evolving, with ongoing adjustments aimed at improving route efficiency, scheduling, and overall service delivery.

“As with any new system, this initiative is a work in progress,” the statement said, assuring that all feedback and concerns raised by users would be carefully reviewed and addressed.

The management reiterated its commitment to providing a modern, efficient, and safe transportation system that aligns with global standards for 21st-century universities.

It further appreciated the understanding and cooperation of stakeholders as efforts continue to optimise the service for the benefit of the entire university community.
