Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false and misleading a viral message currently circulating on social media and WhatsApp platforms, which impersonates the bank’s official handle and falsely claims the institution is shutting down.
In a statement issued on July 31 2026, the management of Access Bank reassured customers, partners, stakeholders, and the general public that the bank remains safe, financially strong, and fully operational across all its subsidiaries.
“Our services continue to run seamlessly, and we remain committed to serving our customers with the highest standards of excellence,” the bank stated.
The fraudulent message, which has caused unnecessary panic among customers, is believed to be the handiwork of individuals seeking to disrupt business operations and undermine public confidence in the financial institution.
Access Bank confirmed that it is working closely with relevant regulatory and law enforcement authorities to identify those responsible for creating and disseminating the false information.
“Appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” the bank warned.
Legal Implications for Offenders
The bank reminded members of the public that creating, publishing, and disseminating false information capable of causing public alarm, damaging reputations, or undermining confidence in institutions constitutes an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
Offenders under this provision face severe penalties, including imprisonment and substantial fines, upon conviction.
Public Advisory
Access Bank urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing or forwarding any unverified messages purporting to emanate from the institution.
“If you receive a false and misleading message, please do not share or forward it. Instead, disregard it and rely only on information communicated through Access Bank’s official and verified channels,” the bank advised.
Customers are encouraged to follow Access Bank’s official social media handles, website, and customer service channels for authentic updates and information.
Customer Confidence
The bank expressed gratitude to its customers, partners, and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence in the institution.
“We thank our customers, partners, and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence in Access Bank,” management said.
Access Bank Plc remains one of Nigeria’s foremost financial institutions with a strong presence across Africa and the United Kingdom, serving millions of customers with innovative banking solutions.
