The Publisher of online news platform August24news.com, Mr. Ajagbe Adeyemi Teslim, popularly known as Omoatitebi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat representing Lagos Island Constituency II under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Ajagbe announced his ambition during a press conference held in Lagos on Thursday, attended by selected journalists, marking his transition from media practice into active partisan politics.

From Journalism to Lawmaking

A seasoned media entrepreneur with extensive experience covering Lagos politics, Ajagbe brings a unique perspective to the legislative race.

He said his decision to contest was influenced by sustained calls from constituents, particularly young people, who are familiar with his grassroots engagement.

Speaking at the event, he noted that his long-standing coverage of the Lagos State House of Assembly has equipped him with deep insight into legislative processes, governance, and policymaking.

He expressed confidence in his ability to deliver effective representation if elected.

Ajagbe described his aspiration as a commitment to give back to society, leveraging his background in media, communication, and public affairs to serve his constituency.

Grassroots Experience and Political Engagement

Ajagbe has previously contested for a Councillorship position in Ward E3, Lagos Island East LCDA, and later served as Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications to the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo. His role strengthened his experience in governance and party administration.

He is also recognised for several political communication initiatives within the APC, including the 2011 Lagos Island APC Almanac, which documented party leadership across wards and served as a strategic reference for party activities.

Among other contributions, Ajagbe developed the Lagos GAC Frame, a visual compilation of key party figures across the state’s senatorial districts, presented to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

He also produced a commemorative frame highlighting 80 distinguished female political office holders in Lagos State since 1999, unveiled by the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

Additionally, he is the administrator of “The Great Islanders,” a global political network that brings together prominent Lagos political stakeholders for discourse on governance and development.

Party Leaders Endorse Aspiration

Ajagbe’s declaration has received backing from party stakeholders in Lagos Island Constituency II. Chairman of the APC Leadership Forum, Hon. Jide Damasio, alongside the constituency’s APC Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Ganiu, described his ambition as a positive development for the party.

They noted that Ajagbe has remained a loyal party member and has consistently used his media platform to promote the ideals of the APC and contribute to political discourse in Lagos and beyond.

2027 Race Gains Momentum

With preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gathering pace, Ajagbe’s entry into the contest adds a new dynamic to the Lagos Island Constituency II race. His blend of media experience, political exposure, and grassroots connection is expected to shape the evolving contest.

As the APC primary process approaches, political observers will be watching closely to see how his candidacy unfolds in what is anticipated to be a competitive race for legislative representation.
