Dismiss media reports of the purported arrest of the CBN Governor, the DSS spokesman described it as fake and misleading.

In a statement on Monday, DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya said the story was fake in its entirety and should be ignored by members of the public.

The statement reads: “the attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23. This is fake news and quite misleading.”

It will be recalled that a section of the social media had relentlessly reported of a purported attempt to arrest the CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele over some allegations that border on corrupt financial practices.

The rumour mill had it that he had chosen to hide overseas with a view to evading arrest over the allegations which have so far not been made clear to the public even though some Nigerians have been calling for his arrest ostensibly out of anger over some recent decisions by the apex particularly the redesigning of naira notes and deadline in returning old notes.

On Monday, it was reported that Emefiele is back in Nigeria and has resumed office after his vacation overseas. With the DSS denial of any attempt at invading his CBN office, the speculation about his arrest would be put to rest, at least for now
