Construction Accelerates At NASENI’s Gora Renewable Energy Industrial Park To Boost Local Energy Production

Construction at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Renewable Energy Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State, is gaining momentum, marking a significant stride toward addressing Nigeria’s energy needs.

Spanning 40 hectares, the multi-energy hub is designed to curb capital flight and save foreign exchange by enabling the local production of renewable energy components, including solar panels, wind systems, mounting racks, and biomass technologies.

During an inspection of the project site on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Engr. Suyud Abdullahi Muhammad, Special Adviser to NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman on Renewable Energy and Gora Project Manager, highlighted that the initiative aims to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported renewable energy equipment.

“There will be a wind assembly plant, small hydro power equipment production, and solar panel manufacturing. Renewable energy goes beyond solar, and this park reflects that broader vision,” Abdullahi said.

He further noted that the project aligns with NASENI’s mission to reduce energy poverty, particularly in a country where more than 80 million people remain off-grid and many connected to the national grid still experience unreliable power supply.

The park is expected to generate approximately 2,000 direct jobs and create an estimated 50,000 indirect employment opportunities across supporting industries. “This initiative will localise the renewable energy value chain. Nigeria will begin to produce and eventually export these technologies, initially targeting the West African market before expanding to the continent,” Abdullahi added.

The project is being executed in partnership with private sector players, academia, and other stakeholders under NASENI’s “3Cs” principle of Creation, Collaboration, and Commercialisation. Around 35 contracting firms are involved, handling various components including multipurpose industrial halls, a Research and Development Centre, Knowledge Park, Energy Centre, workshops, residential and wellness facilities, solar farms, and essential infrastructure such as internal roads and drainage systems.

The Gora Renewable Energy Industrial Park forms a key part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at strengthening local manufacturing, enhancing energy security, and positioning Nigeria as a leading renewable energy hub in Africa.
