Since he was reelected the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2009, the speaker has not been having it easy as allegation of financial misappropriation and his invitation by the anti graft body dominates the media space.  Multiple sources hint that Obasa took the decision to sanitize his kitchen cabinet in the wake of the EFCC investigations as the Speaker is said to be doubting the loyalty of his aides.

The aides were called on Monday to come and pick up their sack letters. The Speaker is not leaving anything to chance to cover his tracks,” the source said.

Late last year, the Speaker had also dissolved the Standing Committees of the House and is yet to reconstitute them, a move the source said is part of the Speaker’s strategy to secure his hold of the House.

Also in September last year, the Speaker had sacked his Special Adviser on Islamic Religion, Dr. Abdul Lateef Abdul-Hakeem over the latter’s declaration of ambition to contest for the governorship seat in 2023 citing ‘conflict of interest’.

Dare Ojole, Senior Special Assistance to the speaker on Media told SECURITY MONITOR that there may be official statement to clarify reasons for the removal of the speaker’s aides in due course.
