Following the recent meeting between the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) with the Leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, they have agreed that the Federal Judicial Workers should suspend its ongoing strike for Federal Courts System as Federal Government has granted financial autonomy to Federal Judiciary.
Meanwhile, State Branches of JUSUN should continue with the industrial action while engaging the Nigerian Governor’s Forum, Nigerian Bar Association in their negotiation and possible consensus to grant Financial Autonomy to State Judiciary.
Comrade Alonge, the President of JUSUN said their decision would be further made known at their next National Executive Council Meeting.
Some have therefore see reason why the Nigerian Bar Association need to also call for an Emergency National Executive Committee Meeting as soon as possible, preferably Virtually to discuss its position vis-a-vis the resolutions of the meeting of the NBA officers with JUSUN leaders.
The Emergency NEC of the NBA , being proposed is also needed to discuss the position of the Association on the growing level of insecurity in the South-East.
The both parties however, frown on the media reports of repeated attacks on Police formations in Imo and Abia States with the latest report of discovery of alleged discovery of an explosive in a school in Aba, Abia State, which has forced the Abia State Government to close schools in the state.
In a statement, they call for a comprehensive social intervention programme by civic organizations including the Nigerian Bar Association to put sufficient pressure on governments at all levels to tackle the problems of unemployment and poverty, which is fuelling the crisis of insecurity’.
