NiDCOM Denies ‘No Distress Call’ Claim, Confirms Nigerians Seeking Evacuation Updates Amid Middle East Crisis

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has refuted a statement attributed to its spokesperson suggesting that no distress calls had been received from Nigerians affected by the ongoing Middle East crisis.

In a clarification issued on Tuesday, the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols of the Commission, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, stated that he did not make such a claim.

According to him, the Commission has, in fact, received enquiries from some Nigerians residing in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Iran, particularly regarding possible evacuation plans should the situation deteriorate.

He explained that while there have been no confirmed emergency distress situations, concerned Nigerians in the affected countries have reached out to seek guidance and updates.

Balogun further noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively collaborating with relevant government agencies to monitor developments and prepare necessary responses if required.

He urged Nigerians in the affected regions to adhere strictly to official travel advisories issued by the Ministry and to make use of designated emergency contact channels.

The NiDCOM spokesperson assured that the Federal Government is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to safeguarding the lives and welfare of Nigerians abroad.

He added that appropriate measures would be taken promptly should the need arise.
