SIFAX Group and its Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, emerged among the biggest winners at the Maritime Industry Merit Awards 2025, securing three major accolades in recognition of their impact on Nigeria’s maritime and corporate sectors.
At the ceremony held in Lagos, SIFAX Group was named Most Corporate Social Responsibility Friendly Company, while Afolabi received two top individual honours — Lifetime Maritime Award and Maritime Man of the Year.
The organiser, Maritime Media Limited, through its Chief Executive Officer, Elder Asu Beks, disclosed that Afolabi emerged Maritime Man of the Year after an “overwhelming” endorsement by industry stakeholders following a 60-day voting process.
According to the award citation, the recognition underscores Afolabi’s sustained contributions to the development of Nigeria’s maritime industry and his long-term vision of positioning the country as a leading maritime hub in sub-Saharan Africa.
Receiving the honours on behalf of the chairman and the group, Captain Ibraheem Olugbade, Executive Director at Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited, expressed appreciation to the organisers, describing the awards as a validation of decades of transformational leadership.
“These awards serve as strong validation of Dr. Taiwo Afolabi’s enduring contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s maritime and logistics industry,” Olugbade said, adding that the recognition also reflects the group’s continued commitment to impactful corporate social responsibility initiatives and sustainable business practices.
The triple honours further consolidate SIFAX Group’s standing as a leading indigenous conglomerate, with diversified interests spanning maritime, aviation, logistics, oil and gas, hospitality, and financial services.
