In a bid to complement the effort of the prosperity government of Senator Douye Diri on agricultural skill acquisition and development in Bayelsa State, the member representing Ogbia constituency one and a House of Representatives hopeful, Chief Mitema Obordor has organized a 2 day 2022 Agro and Entrepreneurship training for youths of Ogbia Local Government council.

Chief Obordor explained that the programme, which is an annual event, aimed at positively touching the lives of the youths for sustainable development and capacity building in Agro skills, is part of his Electoral promise, carried out with limited resources at his disposal as a legislator.

He informed that this year’s edition of the programme covers the three constituencies in Ogbia Local Government Area, pointing out that communities, wards and constituencies are political building blocks of the state while expressing optimism that the programme will have a multiplier effect on the state.

The lawmaker implored the participants to make judicious use of the knowledge administered to them by experts and professionals, adding that if they grow, develop and reproduce what they have learnt, they will be able to bend the hand of success and write their stories in gold as professionals in the business of Agriculture, which is one of the mainstays of any economy.

Also addressing the participants, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Abraham Ingobere, urged them to maximally utilize the training, and not to see the programme as another opportunity to receive from a politician, rather, as a lifetime window to better their lot.

The speaker described Honourable Obordor as the best amongst equals in youth empowerment; a vocal, social and versatile lawmaker, who is consulted like an encyclopedia, and noted that the programme was solely sponsored by Obordor as no money was earmarked by the House for such purpose.

He opined that the government’s efforts alone will not be able to take care of the increasing food demands, hence agro-based youth empowerment programmes would be encouraged across the state.

On his part, the state commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, David Alagoa said the programme was an opportunity to redefine the future of Ogbia youths, admonishing participants to see the opportunity as lifetime empowerment, and not to sell their future by selling their starter packs.

Some Participants commended Honourable Obordor for his benevolence and kind gesture, promising to make good use of the knowledge and starter packs in order to become useful to themselves and the society at large.

According to our Correspondent over one hundred and fifty-six participants were taken on an excursion to some farms in the state, trained on Rice, Cassava and Plantain Cultivation as well as Fisheries, Food Processing and Entrepreneurship, issued certificates of Empowerment and given starter packs with cash empowerments.

The high point of the occasion was the presentation of the wrapper to Chief Mitema Obordor by the Obhan Olei Youths of Ogbia Constituency one.

According to the President of Obhan Olei Youth President, Comrade Eniaman Azibator, the wrapper signifies the love and support of the youths for Hon. Obordor and to invoke the spirit of Enai Ogbia (god) and the Almighty God to protect and keep Chief Obordor for him to live long and continue with the good works which he has been doing.
