Following several warning of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on a campaign tagged: #HallofFame and #WallofShame, aimed at recognising efforts of individuals whose activities promote environmental cleanliness in the state, while also naming and shaming offenders who indulge in reckless waste disposal.
LAWMA enforcement team has intensified efforts in making sure that every form of environmental infractions will not be tolerated in the state.
Environmental offenders were sentenced to community service by a Lagos State mobile court, this serves as deterrent to those who choose to defy environmental laws in the state, by engaging in indiscriminate refuse disposal.
This is to send a strong signal to Lagosians that LAWMA and indeed the state will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that anyone, regardless of position and status, caught in the act of violating environment laws will be put to shame and brought to justice. It warned that days of condoning littering and indiscriminate waste disposal in the metropolis were over, adding that apart from carrying out community service, environmental offenders would be named and shamed, using the agency’s social media handles and other public communication channels.
