….as Government & Youth bodies embark on SDG Goal-6

In commemoration of the 2022 World Clean-Up Day, aimed to combat waste challenges in every community, the man at the helm of affairs in Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, has advocated for a healthy environment that all will be proud of.

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, who was astonished by the even cooperation of all partakers in the annual social actions for this year, has called for effective cleanliness of the environment, for the health benefit of all.

Recall that prior to the 2021 Environmental Sensitisation program, held at the erstwhile banquet hall of the Council Secretariat and which had in attendance, Mr. Ibrahim Adejuwon Odumboni (Director/CEO, Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA), Sanitarian Ogunbekun led-Environment & Health Services Department, alongside other stakeholders within.

Recall that, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu led-administration realigned the sole interest of the Local Government on ‘Adequate Sanitation’, in tandem with the 2nd Pillars THEMES agenda (Health & Environment) of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to forestall all forms of discrepancies, giving room for ‘Waste to Wealth’ opportunities.

To that consistent effect, the Council Chairman commended the discharged efforts of every individual for giving back to society. Furthermore, he urged the citizens to always dispose of their wastes appropriately and to comply with the environmental bodies, so as to keep the community clean and healthy for a better living.

The consequential tasks, as spearheaded by Comrade Olaniyi Kushimo (SA on Environment) and Adesumbo Adeyemi (Green Janitors’ spokesperson & Directorate Member, NYCN Somolu) were convincingly accomplished at four locations, viz, Aduroshakin/Adebiyi, Alhaji Kalejaiye, Ojo/Ojo-Square, and Ayoade/Odunlami axes.

In compliance with Sustainable Development Goal, SGD6, the impressive turnout of participants, led to the successful execution of the exercises, including Hon. Abdul-Lateef Muibi & Hon. Mobolaji Teluwo (Majority Leader & his Deputy), Hon. Abdul-Lateef Ashimi & Hon. Tunde James (Chief Whip & his deputy), where they displayed exemplary acts of diligence.

Meanwhile, Hon. Olumide Akinola (Supervisor for Environment) was joined by Hon. Ayo Coker (Supervisor for Agric & Social Services), Prince Sodiq Adeeso (SSA on Education), Hon. Adewale Oseni (SA on Special Duties), Comrade Abdul-Lateef Agbakeke (SA on Sewage), Gbolahan Adenuga (SSA on Works & Infrastructure), Comrade Olalekan Fasasi (NYCN Coordinator) and Comrade Oluwarotimi Oluyede (CECI Community Champion), ensuring ‘pertinent sanitation activities’ across the aforesaid territories.

Team Leads & Youth Representatives of several CDAs, Zannytecture, Okesuna, TSA, MCAN, Morocco, and LNSC were involved thoroughly, while the wastes obtained were carted away afterward.
