GAMSU Launches 2026 Ideal School Campaign to Upgrade Public Schools in Nigeria

The Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation (GAMSU) has launched the 2026 edition of its Ideal School Campaign, an initiative aimed at identifying and renovating a public school in Nigeria with critical infrastructural challenges.

The foundation, established in 2013, said the campaign underscores its commitment to improving learning conditions for children and young people by creating safe, dignified, and enabling educational environments.

According to GAMSU, the Ideal School Campaign is designed as an open nomination programme, allowing communities across the country to nominate public schools in urgent need of intervention.

The initiative seeks to ensure that selection is driven by verified need and measurable impact rather than random choice.

Eligible states for the 2026 campaign include Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, and Nassarawa, where public primary and secondary schools can be nominated by stakeholders such as teachers, parents, alumni groups, community leaders, and concerned citizens.

The foundation noted that nominations must be supported with evidence highlighting the condition of the school’s infrastructure and the urgency of intervention.

Submissions will undergo a structured evaluation process based on key criteria including the severity of infrastructural decay, safety concerns, access to water and sanitation, student population, and the community’s readiness to sustain improvements.

The nomination window opened on February 9 and will close on February 28, 2026, while assessments are scheduled to take place throughout March.

The selected school is expected to be announced in April 2026.

GAMSU also encouraged supporters to amplify nominations by sharing photos and short videos of affected schools on social media platforms, including Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), using designated campaign hashtags.

The foundation reiterated that while visual content can support submissions, only entries completed through the official nomination platform will be considered.

With the campaign, GAMSU said it aims to contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s education system by addressing infrastructural deficits, noting that quality learning outcomes are closely tied to the condition of school environments.

For nominations, stakeholders are directed to the official campaign portal, while further inquiries and partnership requests can be sent to the foundation via its official communication channels.
