The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Nigerians, particularly Muslim faithful in the state, on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.

The governor described the festival as a significant spiritual milestone that follows 30 days of fasting, prayers and acts of devotion aimed at personal renewal and strengthening faith.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of spirituality, compassion, generosity and peaceful coexistence cultivated during Ramadan.

He commended the Muslim community for their commitment to prayers and sacrifices throughout the holy month, encouraging them to continue supporting the poor and vulnerable, while expressing gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to witness another Eid celebration.

The governor noted that Ramadan, being one of the five pillars of Islam, teaches abstinence from worldly pleasures, steadfastness in prayers and total submission to the will of Allah in line with Quranic teachings. He therefore called on adherents of the faith to continue fostering harmony with people of other religions in Lagos, as has been the longstanding tradition in the state.

Sanwo-Olu also appealed to Nigerians to remain united and committed to the collective growth and development of the state and the nation. He emphasised the need for sustained prayers for peace, stability and wise leadership across the country.

“As we approach another important phase in our democratic journey, we must humbly seek divine guidance for those entrusted with leadership, and work together to ensure that our actions reflect justice, unity and the common good,” he stated.

The governor further encouraged citizens to remember the state, the nation and people across the world in their prayers, asking for Allah’s mercy, peace and continued guidance.
