Eid-el-Fitr: Lagos State Traffic Management Authority Assures Smooth Traffic Flow, Warns Against Violations
By Rashidat Olushola Okunlade
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended warm felicitations to Muslims in Lagos and across Nigeria as they prepare to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr festival, urging them to sustain the virtues of discipline, patience and civic responsibility imbibed during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a goodwill message marking the end of the fasting period, Bakare-Oki commended the Muslim Ummah for their spiritual devotion, resilience and moral uprightness, noting that such commendable qualities should continue to reflect in everyday conduct — particularly in adherence to traffic regulations on the state’s roads.
He reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to enforcing traffic laws, stressing that there will be zero tolerance for all forms of traffic violations before, during and after the festive period.
The LASTMA boss advised motorists, commercial drivers and other road users to desist from reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorised off-loading and driving against traffic, commonly known as one-way driving, warning that such practices pose serious risks to lives and could disrupt the free flow of traffic.
“While we celebrate this important occasion, all road users must exercise caution and strictly comply with traffic rules. LASTMA will not tolerate any action that endangers lives or obstructs traffic movement,” he stated.
Bakare-Oki further assured residents and visitors that the Authority has put in place a comprehensive and coordinated traffic management strategy to ensure seamless vehicular movement across major highways, busy junctions and areas expected to witness increased socio-religious activities during the celebrations.
According to him, personnel have been strategically deployed to critical locations across the state to prevent congestion and respond promptly to traffic-related incidents. He added that officials will maintain round-the-clock monitoring and traffic control operations in collaboration with other security and emergency agencies to guarantee safety and order throughout the festive period.
The General Manager therefore called on Lagos residents to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient on the roads and comply with safety regulations, emphasising that collective responsibility is vital to achieving a safe and efficient transportation system.
“As we celebrate with our Muslim brothers and sisters, we urge all residents to prioritise safety, respect constituted authority and contribute to a peaceful and congestion-free environment,” he added.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to delivering effective traffic management services, particularly during peak and festive periods, in line with its vision of ensuring a safer and more efficient transportation system in Lagos.
