Fire Outbreak at Lagos International Airport Raises Safety Concerns Amid Earlier Aviation Warning

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, sparking renewed attention on safety concerns within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

In a statement released on Monday, FAAN disclosed that emergency responders were promptly deployed to the scene, with firefighters working to contain the situation.

The agency confirmed that no casualties were recorded.

According to FAAN, “Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to contain the situation. No loss of life has been recorded,” assuring the public that efforts were underway to manage the incident effectively.

The development comes barely two months after prominent cleric, Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, issued a warning regarding potential fire incidents at airports.

The warning was contained in his 2026 prophecies released on December 20, 2025.

In the publication, the prophet highlighted possible disruptions in the global aviation space, including fire outbreaks, operational shutdowns, and emergency incidents involving aircraft. He urged stakeholders to take precautionary measures to avert such occurrences.

Recent events within Nigeria’s aviation sector have also intensified public discourse around safety preparedness. Notably, an aircraft operated by Arik Air reportedly experienced engine failure, leading to an emergency landing in Benin, an incident that further underscores concerns about operational risks.

While authorities continue to investigate the cause of the MMIA fire, aviation stakeholders are expected to review safety protocols and reinforce preventive measures to forestall future emergencies.
