The residents of Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency 2 in Lagos state erupted in cheerful jubilations when Hon. Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson Member, House of Representatives put smiles on their faces through Mega Empowerment for residents of Isolo, Isolo, and Ejigbo, at Hill Crest Event Center, Ago-Okota, in appreciation of their unwavering support, trust, and loyalty through his fruitful and impactful journey at the House of Representatives on February 22, 2023.
The empowerment which was carried out in collaboration with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria had 512 beneficiaries who are majorly Artisans and petty traders.
Addressing his Constituents at the event, Hon. Johnson reiterated his commitment to the people of Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency 2, that they shall continue to benefit from ” good governance” as long as he is at the National Assembly.
The House of Representatives ad-hoc Committee Chairman on Nation’s Refineries while giving his speech, said it is pertinent to gradually but relentlessly pursue economic empowerment programs aimed at alleviating the hardship of the citizens. He said the residents need to be supported and empowered in a way that they will be self-reliant to overcome the strains of hardship.
” If you give a man fish: you have just given a single meal, but if you train him how to fish, he will eat throughout his lifetime” Johnson quoted.
Hon.Johnson further explained the need to rekindle hope in the people and encourage them to be proactive in the fight against poverty. He said it was imperative to come to the aid of his Constituents, who had been struggling to start businesses of their own due to limited, or nonavailable resources at their disposal.
While calling on members of his Constituency to learn one trade or the other to benefit from his subsequent empowerment programs, he said hard time doesn’t last and the antidote to poverty is hard work.
Items distributed at the programs were: Ten (10) Tricycle popularly called “Maruwa”, Sixty (60) refrigerators, Sixty five ( 65) sewing Machines, Forty-Two (42) Hair dryers, Thirty (30) grinding Machines, Thirty-Five (35) Ovens and Fifty-Five Generators.
For the petty traders, Eighty Five (85) Constituents were supported with Fifty Thousand Naira Cash each to boost their trades.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ajibola Yusuf said Hon. Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson has changed the narrative of the politics of Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency 2 from what it used to be to a progressive one., He further said, what we are witnessing here is unprecedented. He, therefore, called on all other public officeholders to emulate this good gesture.
Dignitaries at the event were: Chief Henry Oladele Ajomale former Chairman, of All Progressive Congress in Lagos State, Barrister Gani Bello, Alhaji Fatai Kasunmu, Prince Jelili Atiku and Comrade Olatunde, who are all community leaders.
