Telecommunications giant Globacom has dedicated the 2026 edition of the renowned Ojude Oba Festival to the memory and enduring legacy of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.
The company announced that this year’s festival, themed “Ojude Oba 2026: Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona,” will hold at the Festival Arena opposite the royal palace in Ijebu Ode.
The 2026 celebration marks the 21st consecutive year of sponsorship by Globacom and serves as a tribute to the revered monarch, who passed away on July 13, 2025, after an impactful 65-year reign on the throne.
In a statement issued in Lagos, Globacom said its continued support for the cultural festival was inspired by Oba Adetona’s unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting the rich traditions, values, and heritage of the Ijebu people.
According to the company, this year’s edition carries a deeper emotional and cultural significance.
“For us, this year’s edition is beyond sponsorship. It is a celebration of the remarkable legacy of a highly respected monarch who devoted himself to elevating the Ojude Oba Festival to global recognition,” the company stated.
Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential traditional rulers, Oba Adetona transformed Ojude Oba from a modest local gathering into an internationally recognised cultural festival that unites Ijebu sons and daughters across religious and social divides.
The late monarch ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, beginning a historic reign that witnessed remarkable cultural and socio-economic growth in Ijebuland. During his reign, Globacom commenced sponsorship of the annual festival, helping to expand its profile and visibility.
Over the years, Ojude Oba has evolved into a major tourism and cultural attraction, drawing dignitaries, visitors, and tourists from across Nigeria and around the world.
Globacom reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the festival and preserving the cultural heritage nurtured by the late Awujale for future generations.
The company added that its continued investment in Ojude Oba aligns with its broader vision of promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural identity on the global stage.
