… Governor Secures Second Term with Decisive Victory Across 19 Local Government Areas

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the August 15 governorship election, paving the way for his second term in office.
Professor Joshua Ogunwole, the State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, made the declaration at approximately 7:24 am on Sunday at the state collation centre in Osogbo.
Governor Adeleke, who contested under the platform of the Accord Party, secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, polling a total of 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC candidate won in 11 local government areas, amassing 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Detailed Results
Providing a breakdown of the election outcome, Professor Ogunwole announced that the total number of accredited voters stood at 1,010,684, with 1,005,800 votes cast across the state.
The returning officer stated: “Accredited voters, 1,010,684; total votes received by political parties Accord, 511,067; AA, 2,308; AAC, 1,458; ADC, 17,180; ADP, 2,946; APC, 444,815; APGA, 1,475; APM, 234; APP, 114; BP, 111; NNPP, 118; PRP, 83; SDP, 155; YPP, 534; ZLP, 2,482.”
The total valid votes were recorded at 985,079, with 207 rejected votes.
Local Government Breakdown
Adeleke’s victories came in the following local government areas: Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji secured wins in: Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, and Obokun local government areas.
Official Declaration
Following the signing of the results by agents of all political parties, Professor Ogunwole formally declared Adeleke as the duly elected governor.
“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 Governorship election and returned elected,” Ogunwole announced.
Political Reactions
Governor Adeleke has since expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, and the electoral body for ensuring a peaceful and credible election. In a statement following his victory, the governor expressed anticipation for a congratulatory call from his opponent, Oyebamiji, while pledging to continue his developmental agenda for the people of Osun State.
