… As 2026 Customer Service Week Holds October 5–9

LAPO Microfinance Bank (LAPO MFB) is set to roll out a week-long celebration of customers and frontline employees as the 2026 Customer Service Week approaches, in a move the lender says underscores its renewed commitment to service excellence across its sprawling national network.
The celebration, themed “The Extra Mile,” will hold from October 5 to 9, 2026, placing LAPO MFB in step with organisations worldwide that dedicate the annual observance to recognising customer-facing personnel, appreciating customers and reinforcing service cultures that stretch beyond the ordinary.
For LAPO MFB, the theme dovetails neatly with its 2026 organisational focus, “Exceed the Expectations,” a strategic thrust the bank says reflects its determination to make every customer interaction meaningful, responsive and solution-driven.
Six Million Customers, One Standard
With a customer base of approximately six million spread across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, LAPO MFB acknowledges that exceptional service is not forged in boardrooms but in everyday encounters, from the first point of contact at a branch or service centre to interactions through its digital channels, field operations and other customer touchpoints.
That footprint, industry analysts note, places a premium on consistency: the challenge for any institution of LAPO MFB’s scale is ensuring that the quality of service delivered in Lagos matches the experience in Lokoja, Kano or Uyo.
A Week of Deliberate Celebration
During the week, the bank will host a series of activities designed to celebrate customers, recognise employees, promote service excellence and entrench a culture of going the extra mile.
Particular emphasis will be placed on LAPO MFB’s frontline employees, whose daily interactions with customers are central to delivering the institution’s promise of improving lives. The bank will also deploy its digital and social media platforms to celebrate customers, share stories of exceptional service and amplify the people behind the customer experience.
‘The Extra Mile Is a Mindset’ — Akande
Speaking ahead of the celebration, Oluremi Akande, Director of Marketing and Communications at LAPO MFB, said going the extra mile must remain a daily commitment rather than a one-week activity.
“At LAPO MFB, going the extra mile means understanding that behind every transaction is a person, a family, a business or a dream. It means listening carefully, responding with empathy and finding ways to make our customers’ experience better,” she said.
“Customer Service Week gives us an opportunity to celebrate our people and renew our commitment to putting the customer at the centre of everything we do.”
Akande added that the evolving expectations of customers require financial institutions to continuously improve how they deliver services.
“Our customers are changing, and their expectations are changing with them. We must therefore continue to challenge ourselves to be more responsive, more accessible and more innovative. The extra mile is not a destination; it is a mindset that should guide every interaction with our customers.”
Beyond the Week: Service as Core Value
Beyond Customer Service Week, LAPO MFB said its commitment to service excellence remains anchored in its core values, including People First, Integrity, Excellence, Commitment to Sustainability, Passion and Commitment, and Enterprise and Teamwork.
As the 2026 celebration approaches, the bank is inviting its employees and customers to join in recognising the power of exceeding expectations, and making “The Extra Mile” a defining feature of the customer experience.
Why It Matters
Customer Service Week, observed internationally in the first full week of October, is more than a calendar ritual for financial institutions. In Nigeria’s increasingly competitive microfinance and retail banking sector, service quality has become a decisive differentiator, with customers, many of them small business owners and low-income earners voting with their feet when institutions fall short.
For LAPO MFB, a lender whose stated mission centres on improving lives, the week offers both a moment of reflection and a public pledge: that the extra mile will not end when the balloons come down.
