The Rotary Club of Lagos has commissioned a newly constructed block of six rooms for the pupils of the Model Primary School in Ilara, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The project, which was born last year in commemoration of 2022 Basic Education and Literacy Week, is fully equipped with both physical and electronic libraries, furniture, offices, toilets, and an area for sporting activities. Representatives of government, Monarchs, indigenes, and students in the community attended the opening.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, the President, Rotary Club of Lagos, Rotarian Joseph Akhigbe, said this is a great day to witness the commissioning of one of our major projects for this Rotary year, the construction, furnishing, and equipping of a block of six classrooms with offices, toilets, and a library.
The Donor of the Project and Chairman of Address Homes, Dr. Bisi Onasanya, thanked the Oba of Ilara for donating land for the project without collecting a dime, saying that is the hallmark of someone who desires development in his community. Onasanya also thanked God and society for being kind to him, and some people used the avenue to give back to that society as a way of remembering their humble beginnings.
On his part, the chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Wahab Alawiye-King, extolled the Rotary Club for their impact on society.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Abayomi Abolaji, acknowledged the Rotary Club, saying we always feel their impact, even in the education space.
The Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Oba Olukayode Ogunsanwo, expressed his appreciation to the Rotary Club family, Address Homes for the construction, Down College for providing the furniture, and Bank of Industry (BoI) for financing the physical and electronic library, and prayed to Almighty God to reward them.
In appreciation, the Monarch bestowed the chieftaincy titles of Bajiro of Ilara Kingdom and Akinrogun of Ilara Kingdom on the president of the Rotary Club, Joseph Akhigbe, and the Donor, Chairman of Address Homes, Dr. Bisi Onasanya, respectively.
