Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers Upgrades Enugu Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Strengthens Mental Health Infrastructure

Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers has completed a major upgrade of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Enugu, reinforcing its commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and supporting mental health services across Nigeria.
The intervention, executed as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, builds on previous community-focused projects, including the renovation of a secondary school in Cross River State. It underscores a broader strategy aimed at delivering sustainable impact in both the health and education sectors.
The renovation has significantly enhanced the hospital’s physical environment, with upgrades spanning both external and internal facilities. Outdoor areas were redesigned with landscaping and greenery to create a calmer atmosphere, while a newly installed canopy provides a functional relaxation space for patients, staff, and visitors. Security was also strengthened through the construction of a 20-metre perimeter fence, and a borehole was installed to ensure consistent access to clean water.
Within the facility, the central and extension wards underwent extensive refurbishment. This included the polishing of floors, repainting of walls, and the installation of new furniture such as hospital beds, bedside drawers, nurses’ stations, and televisions. Faulty infrastructure—including doors, ceiling fans, and lighting fixtures—was replaced, while a comprehensive fumigation exercise was carried out to improve hygiene standards.
The hospital’s sanitary facilities were not left out, as a six-unit toilet block was fully upgraded with modern plumbing systems, new sanitary fittings, electrical installations, and tiling, bringing the facility in line with improved standards of patient care and safety.
Speaking on the project, Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers, Olumide Oyetan, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s focus on critical sectors that drive societal development.
“Access to quality healthcare and education are cornerstones of societal progress. This renovation demonstrates our commitment to strengthening mental health infrastructure and creating a more supportive environment for both patients and healthcare professionals,” he said.
Oyetan noted that the organisation had undertaken a similar project at the Yaba Psychiatric Hospital in 2024, adding that such interventions are designed to deliver long-term value to communities.
Industry observers note that sustained private sector investments in healthcare infrastructure, particularly in mental health, remain essential to addressing gaps in Nigeria’s health system. Through targeted upgrades and structured interventions, Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers continues to position itself as a key contributor to socially responsible development initiatives nationwide.
