LAPO Microfinance Bank has been honoured with the Green Icon Award at the 2026 Green Conference organised by GreenPlinth Africa for its contributions to sustainable finance and environmental sustainability in Nigeria.
The award was presented during the conference attended by stakeholders from the sustainability, financial services and development sectors, where organisations making significant impact in climate-conscious investments and green initiatives were recognised.
According to the organisers, LAPO MfB earned the recognition following its sustained investments in environmentally focused financing initiatives across the country.
The microfinance bank disclosed that it has disbursed over ₦59 billion in green and clean energy loans aimed at improving access to solar energy solutions, clean cooking technologies and eco-friendly micro enterprises, particularly among low-income households and small business owners.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Marketing and Communications at LAPO MfB, Oluremi Akande, described the award as a validation of the bank’s commitment to responsible and inclusive banking.
Akande said the institution remained focused on ensuring that financial inclusion and environmental sustainability work together in supporting economic growth and community development.
“This recognition reinforces our belief that financial inclusion and environmental sustainability must go hand in hand. At LAPO Microfinance Bank, we have continued to scale our green portfolio while ensuring that underserved communities are not left behind in the transition to a low-carbon economy,” he stated.
He further revealed that the bank has disbursed more than ₦1.7 trillion to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across 34 states of the federation, a development he said reflects the bank’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable economic development.
The Green Conference organised by GreenPlinth Africa provides a platform for collaboration, dialogue and recognition of institutions promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility across Africa.
Industry observers say the recognition further strengthens LAPO MfB’s growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions in sustainable and impact-driven finance.
