The Congress, presided over by the NGIJ President, Mallam AbdulRahman Aliagan, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, approved the nominations for the positions of Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Registrar and Auditor.
The New Executive Line-Up
At the end of the ratification process, Kareem Taofeek Abiodun, the Publisher of TheNewsstar, emerged as the Treasurer, while Rashidat Okunlade, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Rotamedianews and BusinessEcho Magazine, was named the Financial Secretary.
Also ratified were Taiwo Adediran, the Head of News and Current Affairs at DaimondFM Ilorin/Ilesa, who becomes the Registrar, and Ifeoma Ikem, Publisher of NewsAfricanmul, who retained her position as Auditor.
The newly inaugurated executive members will join the leadership team elected during the September 30, 2026, NGIJ election. That team includes Mallam Abdulrahman Aliagan (President), Oyewale Oyelola (Vice President, Administration), Comrade James Ezema (Vice President, Investigations), Rowland Shuwa (National Secretary) and Kehinde Adeleye (Public Relations Officer).
The newly inaugurated executive will serve a two-year tenure.

Why It Matters
The ratification of these new executives completes the NGIJ’s leadership structure, positioning the Guild to advance its mandate of promoting investigative journalism and press freedom in Nigeria.
The inclusion of diverse media professionals spanning digital news platforms, broadcast journalism, and publishing reflects the Guild’s broad reach and its commitment to drawing expertise from across the media landscape. The seamless filling of these critical financial and administrative roles ensures that the Guild can maintain its institutional integrity and operational efficiency.
For Rotamedianews, the appointment of its Publisher as Financial Secretary is a testament to the platform’s growing influence and active participation within the Nigerian media ecosystem. It reinforces the commitment of our editorial leadership to the highest standards of professional practice and industry development.
As the new executives settle into their roles, expectations will be high for the Guild to sustain its momentum in defending the rights of journalists, promoting ethical reporting, and holding power accountable in the coming years.
