The landscape of Nigeria’s burgeoning creative economy is poised for a seismic shift with the announcement of the TGM Academy, the country’s first dedicated training institution for talent managers. Spearheaded by leading public relations and communications agency, That Good Media (TGM), the Academy is set to launch in September 2026, directly addressing the critical gap in professional structures that has long hindered the sustainable growth of Nigerian creatives on the global stage.

The announcement comes ahead of a high-level industry convening, the Talent Management Leadership Roundtable, scheduled for July 28, 2026, at Abora Suites, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, hosted in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the French Consulate, and digital talent platform Megowa, signals a collaborative push to reposition talent management as a cornerstone of economic and cultural policy.

A Strategic Pivot for the Creative Economy

For years, Nigeria has solidified its status as Africa’s creative powerhouse, exporting globally recognized artists, filmmakers, and influencers. Yet, beneath the surface of this success lies a persistent challenge: the absence of standardized professional frameworks for the managers who guide these careers.

“This is not just about training; it is about building infrastructure,” explained Toyosi Etim Effiong, Chief Executive Officer of That Good Media. “Talent managers are the bridge between raw creative potential and sustainable commercial value. Without specialized education and ethical standards, our creative ecosystem will continue to rely on luck rather than strategy. TGM Academy is here to change that narrative.”

Unlike conventional conferences, the upcoming Leadership Roundtable is designed as a “knowledge exchange.” It will bring together senior talent managers, entertainment executives, streaming platform representatives, brand leaders, and diplomats to tackle pressing issues facing the industry.

Bridging the Gap Between Brands and Talent

Industry insiders suggest that a significant disconnect often occurs during partnership negotiations, where brands and corporate entities are frequently hesitant to enter deals due to a lack of professional representation on the talent side. The Roundtable will dissect this friction, exploring the specific expectations of corporate partners and how managers can build trusted, long-term relationships with commercial organizations.

Furthermore, discussions will extend to international collaboration, with a focus on how diplomatic missions and cultural institutions (like the French Consulate) facilitate cultural exchange and cross-border projects. The insights gleaned from these sessions are slated to directly inform the curriculum and learning framework of the TGM Academy, ensuring the training is practical and globally relevant.

Inclusivity and Digital Expansion

In a move to democratize access to this elite training, the event will also serve as the launchpad for the TGM Academy Scholarship Fund. This initiative aims to ensure that financial limitations do not bar talented aspirants from accessing world-class education. Corporate organisations, development agencies, and foundations are being invited to sponsor participants, reinforcing a collective commitment to an inclusive talent ecosystem.

Complementing the Academy’s launch, the Roundtable will spotlight Megowa, a digital platform designed to serve as a trusted professional network connecting Nollywood talent, managers, and international stakeholders. As TGM Academy focuses on skill development, Megowa is positioned to provide the infrastructure for professionals to access opportunities, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening Nigeria’s footprint in the international creative industry.

The launch of TGM Academy represents a defining moment for Nigeria’s creative sector, transitioning talent management from an informal profession to a recognized, institutionalized career path capable of driving global cultural influence for generations to come.
