A violent clash between Hausa Bike Rider who refused to pay the sum of #200 but ensued with a slap in Ikola Ilumo area of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Area LCDA has left eight men dead and several makeshift structures razed, prompting a major security operation by combined teams of police, military, and other agencies.
The unrest, which occurred at the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2026, began as a disagreement between a commercial motorcycle rider and an alleged cult leader at Power Line Bus Stop. The altercation reportedly escalated when the rider stabbed and killed the cultist, sparking a chain of reprisals that plunged the community into chaos.
Eight Dead, Several Injured
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the casualties.
“At 1:52 p.m., LASEMA received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak in the area. The Agency’s response team was immediately activated and arrived at the scene within 25 minutes. Upon arrival, it was observed that several makeshift structures had been razed by fire,” he stated.
“Preliminary assessment and engagement with residents at the scene indicate that the incident followed a disagreement that escalated into communal unrest. Regrettably, four adult males lost their lives, and several others sustained various degrees of injuries.”
Joint Security Response
A multi-agency security operation was swiftly activated, involving:
Nigeria Police Force (led by the Lagos Commissioner of Police), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and Amotekun.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service brought the fire under control and conducted damping down to prevent further spread.
Emergency medical support was provided on-site by the Agbado Oke-Odo Ambulance Service, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and other health responders. The Chairman Hon. Abiodun Ejigbadero also visit the scene where Seriki Hausa has been invited for questioning.
Government Condemns Violence, Calls for Calm
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents to remain calm and avoid reprisals.
“Residents are hereby urged to remain calm, shun any form of reprisal, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of heightening tension.”
He reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance stance on violence under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
“The Lagos State Government condemns all acts of violence and reiterates its zero tolerance for actions that threaten the peace and unity of the state. In line with global best practices, a full investigation has commenced to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the incident, and anyone found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law.”
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the remote and immediate causes of the clash. The cooperation of community leaders and residents during the emergency response was acknowledged.
