The Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) is a feature of the Domain Name System (DNS) that authenticates responses to domain name lookups. It does not provide privacy protections for those lookups, but prevents attackers from manipulating or poisoning the responses to DNS requests.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in collaboration with Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has called the general public to participate in Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) validation awareness webinar.
The virtual event will hold on Thursday, December 12th 2024 at 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM GMT+1.
The objective of the webinar is to promote DNSSEC validation and ensure Nigeria achieves increased awareness by the end of the year and at least 50% DNSSEC validation rate by the first quarter of 2025.
The awareness webinar on DNSSEC validation is an eye opener on right links and will ensure that users are directed to the correct website and prevents attackers from redirecting users to fake websites.
The Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) is a feature of the Domain Name System (DNS) that authenticates responses to domain name lookups. It does not provide privacy protections for those lookups, but prevents attackers from manipulating or poisoning the responses to DNS requests.
DNSSEC works by using public key cryptography to sign DNS data. This allows users to verify that the data they receive came from the correct source. DNSSEC also protects users from receiving tampered data.
The event outlined three (3) distinguished Speakers; Babagana Digima Head, New Media & Information Security, Ibiso Kingsley-GeorgeHead, Internet Governance and Yazid Akanho Technical Engagement Manager to discuss and enlightened the general public on DNSSEC validation.
