Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening media professionalism and advancing digital journalism in Nigeria following the successful completion of the second edition of its #NLNGChangeYourStory Workshop 2026, held in Lagos.
The three-day capacity-building programme brought together 40 journalists from diverse media organisations to explore the evolving dynamics of modern journalism shaped by artificial intelligence and digital communication technologies. Participants examined how emerging media tools can enhance real-time reporting, expand audience reach beyond national borders, and drive deeper engagement across digital platforms.
Speaking during the workshop, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, described the initiative as part of the company’s broader strategy to foster constructive engagement with the media while promoting excellence and credibility in journalism practice.
She noted that responsible and well-informed reporting plays a crucial role in shaping public understanding of key sectors such as energy, economic growth, and sustainability.
Dr. Horsfall encouraged participants to apply the practical knowledge gained from the sessions to improve the depth, quality, and impact of their reports.
According to her, NLNG views its engagement with the media as a strategic partnership.
“We provide the energy that powers nations and generates revenue for our country; you provide the information that powers minds. Our pride in hosting this workshop will be justified when we begin to see a new standard reflected in your next feature story, broadcast, or investigative report,” she stated.
The workshop featured expert-led sessions and hands-on training designed to strengthen participants’ digital storytelling competencies. Digital communication specialist Dan Mason facilitated sessions on modern storytelling techniques and multimedia content development, while renowned media trainer and veteran journalist Taiwo Obe led a practical Journalism Clinic focusing on newsroom innovation and professional ethics.
Participants were equipped with practical skills in data visualisation, online verification, audience engagement strategies, and building a strong digital presence in a rapidly changing media environment.
Through the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative, NLNG reiterated its long-standing commitment to supporting the media industry’s digital transformation and promoting journalistic excellence. Since its inception, the programme has empowered more than 400 journalists with advanced digital communication and social media skills across multiple editions.
Delivering her closing remarks, Dr. Horsfall charged participants to see the training not merely as a certification exercise but as a catalyst for transformation in storytelling and public communication.
She urged them to harness digital tools — including smartphones and multimedia platforms — as powerful instruments for shaping impactful narratives capable of influencing society and driving positive change.
NLNG also commended the facilitators and participants for their active engagement throughout the workshop, expressing confidence that the initiative will continue to raise professional standards within Nigeria’s media landscape.
